Each month, Sarajo of SJ Designs Jewelry shares the amazing image her husband has given her for inspiration. She calls it the Honey Do List. She's usually a wiz with it and makes a ton of designs. While I love having that extra inspiration, I'm lucky if I can eke out a design or two. This month's photo almost stumped me! Almost.
First, I had trouble for some reason finding time to focus on the inspiration. But, when I did, nothing was coming to me. I looked again at the photograph of the intricately carved wooden door a few days ago and was struck by the comedy and tragedy masks. They made me remember the carved stone beads in my stash.
I knew those beads would be perfect in a pair of earrings with a tassel. And, as I thought about all the texture on the door, I contemplated maybe creating a necklace that included embossed and colored tin. Since I knew I was short on time, I decided to go ahead and incorporate the tin idea into the same earrings, making them extra long.
I have to admit that I've had those carved skull beads for AGES (my husband picked them out for a necklace for himself) and was relieved to be able to work them into something that's actually somewhat feminine.
A big thanks as always to Sarajo and Eric for the inspiration. Make sure to head over to SJ Designs Jewelry to check out what awesomeness she's created!
You have managed to find the perfect components to realise the inspiration flawlessly. It sure wasn't an easy inspiration to begin with.
ReplyDeleteDivya, Thank you! I really struggled with this inspiration. I'm so glad I persisted with it and came up with these. I really like them!
DeleteI love these earrings! They are really fun and pick up on various aspects of the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteAnn, Thank you! I really struggled with this one for a little while. I'm glad I didn't let it take me down. :)
DeleteSometimes it's the things that give us the most trouble that yield some of the best results! I think your earrings are wonderful. What a great combination of elements... and those skull beads are super fun! I always love seeing what you come up with for the Honey Do List. Thanks for playing along with us.
ReplyDeleteSarajo, Thank YOU for another fun monthly challenge. I'm more often than not pleased with what I make from the pictures y'all share. These earrings are no exception. So, thank you for continuing to inspire me.
DeleteYou rocked it this month! I'll admit this month's challenge was a little monochromatic and difficult, but I love what you did with it.
ReplyDeleteAw, Eric, thank you! It was a difficult challenge, for me anyway. But, if really did have so much to it that I missed somehow. I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve.
DeleteThe design is perfect for the challenge! It would've been OK with the carved beads only but adding all those textured made it more complex and intriguing!
