On my Desk (WOYWW)

Ever since I got the craft room cleaned and organized the other week, I've done a pretty good job keeping it that way. I've even been pretty good at cleaning off my desk between projects. . .pretty good - not perfect. And, of course, I usually have several projects going on at once. Currently, this is the state of my craft desk.

In the center is my to do list. I took this picture first thing this morning, just after I finished writing it out. Just above that are some keys for a tutorial I'm working on for a secret project. . .to be revealed later. On the left is my art journal with black scribbles (I was trying to use up some paint) and a finished altered playing card (the flower). Of course, there's also a large mug of coffee and all the other miscellany I keep within reach. Just these few things have me a bit overwhelmed at the moment, so I think I'm going to clear the excess to clear my head and get motivated. Do you work better on a messy desk or a clean one?

I'm linking up at Stamping Ground for What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday (WOYWW).

  1. I need to write a to-do list. I think they help! Love the flower playing card - very pretty.

    Have a crafty Wednesday

    1. Sharon,
I can't live without my list. I would be completely lost. I make lists for everything. It's just my way. Thanks so much for your kind words and swinging by! :)

  2. Don't really know what a clean desk would be like…It seems like mine are always piled higher and deeper. While I am not a hoarder I do have a lot of stuff! I need to make out a to do list also!!! So much that needs done I would be overwhelmed to see it all on paper! Thanks for visiting my desk earlier. Vickie #4

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  4. I can't work on more than one thing at a time, I get overwhelmed too quickly, so I get why you feel that a clear up is a good idea. That said, a to do list is a good thing, it might help you ignore the other bits while you're working on a single thing. And then, if all else fails, gaze out the window and enjoy your coffee!!

    1. Julia,
I'm totally a project-hopper, especially if one has me waiting for paint or glue to dry OR if I'm stumped as what step to take next. So, there's always a few on my desk. Oh yes, there is much coffee sipping and window gazing done as well ;).
Thanks so much for taking the time to pop in.

  5. Your craft desk is intriguing! Make sure you drink the coffee and not the paint water!
    Have a great WOYWW week!

  6. I definitely work better on a tidy desk, as I can never find anything on a messy desk and get all flustered about it. On the other hand, if the desk is too clean and tidy, I might feel inhibited to make it messy. Somewhere in the middle is my comfort zone! Probably an empty work surface that's full of paint and ink splatters is my ideal, so I can just pull out the supplies that I need for that particular project. Yours looks nice and inviting! Thanks for visiting yesterday! Enjoy the rest of the week! zsuzsa #24

    1. Zsuzsu, Oh yes, I definitely get more done when I've cleared my desk. To be honest, the to do list usually lives off to the side once it's been made and the journal and card really just needed to be put away. But, I totally know what you mean. A blank desk is definitely intimidating and a full one is overwhelming. Thanks for hopping by!

  8. I always keep a little note book with to-do lists as sometimes life distracts me and I find I am able to get back on track quicker. I would like a tidy desk but it rarely happens because I need everything around me that I need for a project so it's nearly always messy. Thanks for the visit to mine, have a great crafty week and happy belated woyww, Angela 16

    1. Angela, My list usually keeps me on track. Though, I must admit that I do deviate from it if inspiration strikes. Yes, it is hard to keep a tidy desk. I don't often notice how bad I've let it get until I finish a project. There are times I get done and step back, realizing that EVERYTHING is on my desktop. EEK! I appreciate you popping in as well :)

  9. I personally like to start a new project with a clear desk. I love starting to get out all the materials I need. I can get a bit carried away while working, and spread stuff out everywhere and get very untidy very quickly, and I find too much mess overwhelming and counter-productive! I love your art journal cover with the black squiggles - it's great! Looking forward to seeing the secret keys project too. Thank you for your visit and your lovely enthusiastic comment - I'm so glad you like my Zentangle tracing! I've done some more today but haven't photographed them yet. I am not worried about my scan any more and am back on track being positive again - I managed to keep very positive for most of last year and it really helped me - you are right that negativity is no good at all!

    Happy belated WOYWW,

    1. Shoshi,
Yes, I think a clear desk is indeed best at least to start. It definitely can get overwhelming when all the supplies start piling up. Sometimes I even try to limit my supplies to keep it from getting too messy and to give myself that little extra challenge. I'm hoping to work on that journal page soon - maybe even later tonight. They key thing is just for a tutorial I've been asked to create. I can't wait to reveal.
Your Zentangles are so impressive. I'm glad your positivity has kicked in too. That will always make you feel better. Keep it up! Thanks so much for taking the time to pop in.

  10. Like your to-do list. I just started one on excel, but before that I kept spiral notebooks or in my faux-dori. Love your APC. I work the same on a clean or messy desk, but I prefer clean. Hugs, LisaDV #26

  12. Oh yes, I also always have more than one project on the go, usually a few. I might run out of ideas for one or just be waiting for paint/glue to dry.
Thanks for visiting earlier and for your kind comment.

  13. I really like the black 'strokes' in the journal... and as you may have guessed, I work best on a clean desk. I always get comments about the neatness, but it's just how i roll... cleaning up after each project. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier this week, happy (belated) woyww and a big hug from Holland. Marit #20

I do try to clean up too, but it just doesn't always happen. I always seem to have more than one project going on at once. Ah well. I guess that's just how I roll. ;)

  14. Hi Hope. Thank you for for stopping by my blog this week. I'm going to check out your other post you linked to. As to the shadow box frame I mentioned in my post, I found it at Dollar General for $5. They are only in black but we know that can be changed ;-) Creative Blessings on your week! Kelly #39

  15. I actually think I work better on a crowded desk, but I love my desk also clean, it is a constant duel I think, love the fact that your desk is right underneath a window. I sometimes want to switch my desk, but then I don't have any power outlets. very very late, WOYWW Vicky

    1. Vicky,
Yes, it is a duel indeed. My desk is actually more in the middle of the room, facing the window. That picture is deceptive. I don't have any power outlets there either, but have run an extension cord around the room (behind furniture and whatnot) to a 6-way that's under my desk. It's not the most pretty solution, but it works for now! :) Thanks for stopping by!

  16. I always dread the moment I have to clean my working (=dining)table - on the one hand, the chaos is overwhelming and does not stimulate me to create, on the other - I try to keep it clean for quite a long and do not create anything or almost anything during this time. Then the circle begins again!
